Jean-Philippe Gatien
Jean-Philippe Gatien (born October 16, 1968 in Alès ) is a former French table tennis player and was one of the best players in the world in the 1990s. He became world champion in 1993 by beating Jean-Michel Saive in the final.
youth
Jean-Philippe Gatien's career was promoted by his father René († 2000 at the age of 66), who played table tennis himself and was president of the French league. From 1981 Jean-Philippe Gatien attended the National Sports Institute (Institut National du Sport) in Paris, from which he graduated with a business diploma.
As a youth he was with the French team in 1985 and 1986 vice European champion. From 1988 to 2002 he won the national championship 13 times in singles, eight times in doubles and twice in mixed. In 1988 he won the European Nancy Evans Cup with his club Levallois UTT .
Adult
In 1992 he was runner-up in the men's singles (as world number one at number 1) and third in doubles in 2000 . In 1993 he became world champion in men's singles, in 1997 he won the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 . Men's team: World Cup: 3rd place (1995), 2nd place (1997), European champion in 1994 and 1998 and 1990 in mixed (with Wang Xiaoming ).
Jean-Philippe Gatien ended his sporting career on May 15, 2004 due to numerous injuries.
Private
Jean-Philippe Gatien has a brother who is 5 years older than him. He has been married to Nathalie since August 6, 1994.
