Seiji Ono

Seiji Ono ( Japanese 小野 誠 治 , Ono Seiji ; born June 18, 1956 in Nishiuwa County , Ehime Prefecture ) is a former table tennis player from Japan. He took part in five world championships from 1979 to 1987. Ono played a very topspin-emphasized table tennis in the Japanese penholder style. He was a very athletic player who, in addition to training table tennis, also invested a lot of time in strength training and endurance runs.

He achieved his greatest success in Pyongyang in 1979 , when he defeated the Chinese Guo Yuehua (who had to give up in the 4th set because of a hamstring) in the final and became world champion.
