Hiroji Satō
Hiroji Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 博 治 , Satō Hiroji ; born February 3, 1925 in Aomori ; † June 4, 2000 ) was a Japanese table tennis player . He became the first Japanese world champion in men's singles.
World championships
At the 1952 World Cup , he beat the Hungarian József Kóczián in the men's singles final . With the team, he finished third. Satoh ushered in the golden age of Japanese table tennis - players like Ichiro Ogimura , Toshiaki Tanaka and the players Fujie Eguchi , Tomie Okada-Okawa, Kimiyo Matsuzaki dominated the table tennis world championships in the 1950s, before they were dominated by the Chinese players in the 1960s and players were replaced.
