Guo Yuehua
Guo Yuehua ( Chinese 郭 躍華 / 郭 跃华 , Pinyin Guō Yuèhuá ; born February 4, 1956 in Xiamen ) is a Chinese table tennis player . He is two-time world champion in singles and three-time team world champion.
Sometimes his name is also given with Kuo Yue-hua or Guo Yaohua .
He grew up in south-east China and worked as a physical education teacher in Shanghai in the early 1980s.
World championships
Guo Yuehua took part in world championships four times , each time he reached the final in the individual.
At the 1977 World Cup in Birmingham, he won the title with the Chinese team. In the singles he reached the final, in which he was defeated by the Japanese Mitsuru Kohno .
In 1979 he was again runner-up, this time he lost the final against Seiji Ono (Japan), which he gave up in the 4th set because of a torn muscle. In doubles he came third with Liang Geliang , with the Chinese team he came second behind Hungary.
In 1981 he won the singles title for the first time in front of his compatriot Cai Zhenhua . He was also first with the team. In doubles he took silver with Xie Saike (China).
Guo Yuehua was most successful at the 1983 World Cup in Tokyo. Here he won three titles: In the individual again in front of Cai Zhenhua, in the mixed with Ni Xialian (China) and with the Chinese team.

After the 1983 World Cup, Guo Yuehua announced his retirement from international competitive sport. He started studying pedagogy at Fujian University and then worked as a physical education teacher trainer. The Fujian Province government appointed him vice director of the sports committee, but he never served in that position.
Time in Germany
In 1987 Guo Yuehua was signed by SSV Reutlingen for the Bundesliga . Here he played until 1992, then at Hertha BSC . In 1993 he returned to China.
Private
Guo Yuehua is the son of a teacher. He grew up in a family of six. He married Shen Yan in 1983 and has a son (* 1986).
