Tanzania took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 for the eighth time in the Summer Olympics. The team consisted of seven participants, six men and one woman. They started in five competitions in two sports and could not win a medal. The youngest participant was the athlete Marko Hhawu at 17 years and 327 days, the oldest was Julius Sumaye , who also started in athletics, at 31 years and 327 days. During the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996, Ikaji Salum carried the Tanzanian flag into the Olympic Stadium.
