Today Democratic Republic of Congo took shape under the name of the country Zaire in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta for the fifth time at Summer Olympics in part. Zaire's team consisted of 14 participants, two of which were men and twelve women. They competed in two competitions in two sports. The youngest participant was the basketball player Mabika Mwadi at 20 years and 26 days, the oldest was Mukendi Mbuyi at 36 years and 87 days, who was also a member of the basketball team. Mbuyi is to this day the oldest participant for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Olympic Games. At the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996, Lukengu Ngalula carried the Zaire flag into the Olympic Stadium.
