Burundi took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in the US metropolis of Atlanta with seven athletes, one woman and six men, in six competitions in one sport.
It was Burundi's first participation in the Summer Olympics .
Flag bearer
The athlete Dieudonné Kwizéra carried the flag of Burundi during the opening ceremony on July 19 at the Centennial Olympic Stadium .

With a gold medal won, the Burundis team finished 49th in the medal table .
