Zambia took part in the Summer Olympics for the eighth time at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The team consisted of eight athletes, seven men and one woman. They started in eight competitions in two sports. During the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996, boxer Davis Mwale carried the Zambian flag into the Olympic Stadium.

With a silver medal won - the first ever Olympic medal for Zambia - the team finished 61st in the medal table .
