Juan Luis Barrios ( Juan Luis Barrios Nieves ; born June 24, 1983 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican medium and long-distance runner .

Over 1500 m , he won bronze at the Central America and Caribbean Championships in 2001 and gold in 2003 and gold at the Central America and Caribbean Games in 2002. In 2003 he won the Central American and Caribbean Championships and was fifth at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo .

In 2005 he finished 57th on the short distance at the World Cross Country Championships in Saint-Galmier and became Central America and Caribbean champion over 5000 m . The following year followed a 62nd place on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships in Fukuoka double gold over 1500 m and 5000 m at the Central America and Caribbean Games.

At the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won silver over 1500 m and 5000 m. He also started over both distances at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka . Over 1500 m he reached the semi-finals, over 5000 m he finished 14th.

In 2008 he won the Puerto de Veracruz half marathon. He finished seventh in the 5000m at the Beijing Olympics and fifth at the Great North Run .

At the 10,000 meter run of the 2009 World Cup in Berlin, he finished 14th. In 2010 he came in 61st place at the Cross Country World Championships in Bydgoszcz and defended his title at the Central America and Caribbean Games over 1500 m and 5000 m.

In 2011 he finished second in the Guadalajara Half Marathon and third in the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera . In the fall he won the Pan American Games in Guadalajara over 5000 m and was twelfth in the New York City Marathon .

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he was eighth over 5000 m.

In 2013 he finished fifth in the New York City Half Marathon and won the 5000 m in the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the World Championships in Moscow he did not reach the finish line over 10,000 m. In 2014 he finished fourth in the New York City Half Marathon and won the 5000m and 10,000m in the Central American and Caribbean Games.

In 2015 he finished fifth in the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon , won the Guadalajara Half Marathon and finished third in the New York City Half Marathon.
