Argentina participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Australia's Melbourne and in the Swedish Stockholm (only competitions in equestrian sports ) with a delegation of 35 athletes, 34 men and one woman in 27 competitions in eight sports part.
It was the tenth time Argentina had taken part in the Summer Olympics since 1900 .
The youngest athlete was boxer Tristán Falfán at 17 years and 144 days , and the oldest athlete was Jorge Salas Chávez (42 years and 133 days).
Flag bearer
The discus thrower Isabel Avellán carried the flag of Argentina during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

With one gained silver and bronze medals, the Argentine team finished 29th in the medals table .
