Abel Laudonio (born August 30, 1938 in Buenos Aires , † August 12, 2014 ) was an Argentine lightweight boxer .

amateur

Laudonio already took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , but was eliminated there in the last sixteen of the flyweight class against the Briton Terry Spinks , who then also won the gold medal. In 1959, he took first place in the lightweight at the Pan American Games in Chicago.

At the 1960 Olympics in Rome , his second Olympic participation, Laudonio secured the bronze medal in the lightweight, where he was defeated in the semifinals to the Italian Sandro Lopopolo just on points.

professional

Laudonio began his professional career in 1961. He completed 36 fights without defeat, interrupted by only one draw. The first nineteen fights were all decided by knockout.

After a few more fights, Laudonio was Argentine lightweight champion in November 1964 by winning points over Nicolino Locche . Against the same opponent, Laudonio lost the fight for the South American lightweight championship almost six months later. Another six months later he ended his career as a professional after just four years.
