Indonesia took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of 22 athletes, twenty men and two women, in eleven competitions in six sports.

It was Indonesia's second participation in the Summer Olympics .

The youngest athlete was the swimmer Habib Nasution (20 years and 17 days), the oldest athlete was the football player Oros Witarsa (40 years and 39 days).
