Pilar Roldan
María del Pilar Roldán Tapia (born November 18, 1939 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican fencer . She was the first Mexican Olympic medalist .
Pilar Roldán fought with the foil . She made her Olympic debut at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne . There she finished 6th in the individual. At the Pan American Games in Chicago in 1959 , Roldán won the gold medal. The following year she finished seventh at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome . In 1967 she won gold again at the Pan American Games in 1967 in Winnipeg, Canada . The following year she competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in her hometown in singles and with the team. With the team she reached seventh place. In the individual, she won the silver medal behind Jelena Nowikowa from the Soviet Union. It was the only fencing medal in Mexico City that did not go to a European competitor. Pilar Roldán also won the first Olympic fencing medal for Mexico and was the first Mexican Olympic medalist.
