Puerto Rico , whose NOK , the Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico , was founded in 1948 andrecognizedby the IOC in the same year, has participated in all Summer Olympics since 1948. From 1984 to 2002, Puerto Rican athletes were also sent to winter games. Young athletes have taken part in all of the youth summer games held so far.

Summer games
The high jumper Benjamin Casado was the first Puerto Rico athlete to compete in an Olympic competition on July 30, 1948. The first Puerto Rican woman to appear at the Olympics was fencer Gloria Colón on August 31, 1960.
Peruvian athletes have competed in athletics, boxing and shooting (since 1948), weightlifting (since 1952), swimming, basketball and fencing (since 1960), diving and sailing (since 1964), cycling (since 1968), archery and judo ( since 1972), riding and wrestling (since 1976), rowing (since 1984), tennis, gymnastics and baseball (since 1992), softball (since 1996), beach volleyball and taekwondo (since 2004) as well as in table tennis, triathlon and in Volleyball (since 2016).
At the very first Olympic participation in London in 1948, the first medal win could be celebrated. Boxer Juan Venegas won bronze in the bantamweight division. In athletics, the pole vaulters Joe Barbosa and José Vicente achieved a shared ninth place. In 1960 in Rome, Rolando Cruz failed with fourth place in the pole vault only narrowly due to a medal. The men's basketball team also took fourth place in Tokyo in 1964. With five wins in seven preliminary round games, the team qualified for the semi-finals. There she was defeated by the later Olympic champions from the USA with 42:62. The game for the bronze medal was lost to Brazil with 60:76.
In 1968 in Mexico City, weightlifter Fernando Báez reached 6th place in bantamweight. In 1972, the shooter Jaime Santiago also took sixth place with his small-bore rifle in the prone position. Puerto Rico, a suburb of the United States , participated with three boxers in the 1980 Moscow Games, which were boycotted by the United States. 1984 in Los Angeles boxers even won two medals. In 1992 in Barcelona boxer Aníbal Santiago won bronze in the welterweight division. In 1996 in Atlanta, Daniel Santos was the sixth Puerto Rico boxer in a row to win an Olympic medal. Santos won bronze in the welterweight division. In swimming Ricardo Busquets reached 8th place over 50 meters freestyle and 7th place over 100 meters freestyle.
In 2012, for the first time, boxers were not involved in medal wins. Freestyle wrestler Jaime Espinal won silver in the middleweight division. The athlete Javier Culson won bronze over the 400 meter hurdles. In gymnastics, Tommy Ramos reached 6th place on the rings. In Rio de Janeiro 2016, the tennis player Mónica Puig achieved her first Olympic victory for Puerto Rico with her victory in the individual final over the German Angelique Kerber . Diver Rafael Quintero took 7th place in high diving.
Winter games
In winter sports, tobogganers (since 1984), biathletes and alpine ski racers (since 1988) as well as bobsleigh athletes and freestyle skiers (since 1992) have been used. Puerto Rico's first Olympic winter athlete was luge athlete George Tucker on February 9, 1984. Puerto Rico's first woman to appear at the Winter Games on February 24, 1988 was alpine ski racer Mary Pat Wilson.
Youth games
Fifteen young athletes, eight boys and seven girls, competed in nine different sports at the first 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . Boxer Emmanuel Rodríguez became a youth Olympic flyweight champion. The athlete Daliadiz Ortiz was sixth in the javelin throw.
In 2014 in Nanjing , 23 athletes, 15 boys and eight girls, took part. They competed in ten sports. The boys' basketball team took fourth place in the preliminary round. Among other things, the German team was beaten with 12:19 in the preliminary round. In the quarterfinals they lost to Venezuela 18:20.
IOC members
Finance manager Richard Carrión has been an IOC member since 1990 . From 2002 to 2014 he was chairman of the finance committee. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Marketing Commission and since 2003 a member of the Working Group for Remuneration and Remuneration.
