Luis Ortiz Flores (born November 5, 1965 in Humacao ) is a retired Puerto Rican boxer .

biography

Luis Ortiz competed in lightweight at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . He was able to win his fights and made it to the finals. The day before the battle for Olympic victory against future multiple world champion Pernell Whitaker , he weighed a pound and a half too much. For this reason, he followed a strict diet that consisted of only liquids. Ortiz was able to start the fight, but was knocked out in the second round and thus won the silver medal. On his return to his home country, he was met by 300 people at the San Juan airport .

A year later, Ortiz began a career as a professional boxer, which he ended after three fights in the following year.
