Nauru , whose NOK , the Nauru Olympic Committee , was founded in 1990, has been taking part in the Summer Olympic Games since 1996. So far, no athlete from the Pacific Island has participated in the Winter Games. Young athletes have been sent to both of the youth summer games held so far.
Naurus could not win medals.
General overview
Olympic games
The first Olympic team Naurus consisted of the three weightlifters Marcus Stephen , Quincy Detenamo and Gerard Garabwan in 1996, who thus became the first Nauruan Olympic athletes on July 21, 1996. Marcus Stephen was at the Olympic Games for the second time. In 1992 he had become a Samoan citizen and ran for Samoa . In 1993, after the founding of the Nauruan NOK, he regained his original citizenship and participated in Atlanta in 1996 and in Sydney in 2000 for Nauru. Weightlifter Sheeva Peo was the first woman from Nauru to participate in the Olympic Games on September 22, 2000.
In 2012 a Nauruan judoka took part for the first time
Youth Olympic Games
Nauru took part in the 2010 Summer Youth Games in Singapore with four young people . Two boys and two girls competed in athletics, boxing, and weightlifting. The boxer Dj Maaki won the silver medal in the flyweight division.
In 2014 in Nanjing , two teenage athletes, a boy and a girl, took part. They competed in athletics and weightlifting.
