Kuwaiti athletes were given the opportunity to compete under the Olympic flag as Independent Olympic Participants. Nine athletes, eight men and one woman, took up this opportunity at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . A fencer, two swimmers and six shooters, all from Kuwait, entered the Olympic Stadium behind the Olympic flag.
