Laos , whose NOK , the National Olympic Committee of Lao , was founded in 1975, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1980. Only in 1984 no delegation was sent. Participation in winter games has also been avoided so far. Medals were not won. Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.
Overview
In 1980 athletes from Laos competed in the Olympic Games for the first time. The country's first Olympic team consisted of athletes, boxers and marksmen. In the following participations, Laotian athletes were represented in swimming (from 2000), archery (from 2004) as well as in cycling and judo (from 2016).
The country's first Olympians on July 20, 1980 were the marksmen Souvanny Souksvath and Syseuy and the boxers Souneat Ouphaphone, Takti Homrasmy and Bounphisith Songkhamphou. On July 25, 1980, sprinter Seuth Khampa became the first Laotian woman to take part in the Olympic Games.
Youth games
At the first Youth Summer Games in Singapore in 2010 , three teenagers, two boys and one girl, competed in athletics, badminton and swimming.
In 2014, in Nanjing , a boy and a girl took part in athletics.
