Lesotho , whose NOK , the Lesotho National Olympic Committee , was founded in 1971, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1972. Lesotho participated in the 1976 boycott of African countries and stayed away from the Montreal Games. No athlete has yet been sent to the Winter Games. So far, athletes from the South African landlocked country have not been able to win medals.

Overview

Lesotho's first participation in the Olympic Games took place in Munich in 1972 . The country's first Olympian was sprinter Motsapi Moorosi. The 1976 Games in Montreal were boycotted by Lesotho, the country had joined the call to boycott African countries.

In 1980 in Moscow , 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul , the participants were unsuccessful, with boxers from Lesotho taking part in Los Angeles for the first time. In 1992 in Barcelona , the 800-meter runner Mantokoane Pitso was the first woman from Lesotho to start. Taekwondo fighters took part for the first time in Sydney in 2000 and a female swimmer in London for the first time in 2012 . In Rio de Janeiro 2016 , a Lesotho mountain bike rider competed.
