Olympic history of Latvia

LAT

Latvia first took part in the 1924 Winter Olympics. After the nation was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, the Latvian athletes ran for the Soviet Union in the Olympic Games between 1952 and 1988. Only after their dissolution and the independence of Latvia in 1991 did the nation return to the Games in 1992 and have taken part in all Games since then. In total, the Latvian athletes won 19 medals in the Summer Games and 9 medals in the Winter Games (Soviet-Latvian athletes excluded)

The Latvijas Olimpiskā Komiteja was first established in 1922 and recognized again in 1991 by the International Olympic Committee.

Latvia has never applied to host the Olympic Games.
