Kiribati , whose NOK , the Kiribati National Olympic Committee , was founded in 2002, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 2004. So far, no athlete from the Pacific Island has participated in the Winter Games. Young athletes have been sent to both of the youth summer games held so far.
Athletes in Kiribati could not win medals.
General overview
Olympic games
The Olympic teams in Kiribati have so far consisted exclusively of track and field athletes and weightlifters. The sprinter Kaitinano Mwenweata was on August 20, 2004 the first female athlete on the Pacific Island at the Olympic Games. The first men followed a day later with sprinter Kakianako Nariki and weightlifter Meamea Thomas.
Youth Olympic Games
Kiribati took part in the 2010 Summer Youth Games in Singapore with four teenagers . Two boys and two girls competed in athletics, taekwondo, and weightlifting.
In 2014 in Nanjing , three teenage athletes, two boys and one girl, took part. They competed in athletics and weightlifting.
