Meamea Thomas (born September 11, 1987 in Tarawa , † June 23, 2013 in Betio ) was a Kiribati weightlifter .

Career

Meamea Thomas took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens in the light heavyweight division and finished in 13th place. At the opening ceremony he was the flag bearer of his country. A year earlier he had won the gold medal at the South Pacific Games in Suva . In June 2013, at the age of 25, the athlete had an accident in a traffic accident in Betio when he rescued a cyclist from a car and died as a result. The driver of the car was drunk.
