Liberia , whose NOK , the Liberia National Olympic Committee , was founded in 1954 andrecognizedby the IOC in1955, has participated in the Summer Olympic Games since 1956. In 1968, 1976, 1980 and 1992 they did not participate. No athlete in the country has yet participated in the winter games. So far no medal could be won.
Overview
Liberia's first participation in the Olympic Games took place in Melbourne in 1956 . The first Olympians were the sprinters Emmanuele Putu and James Roberts as well as the 800-meter runner George Johnson, who competed on November 23, 1956. Also in Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964 , the Olympic team consisted only of track and field athletes. Participation in the Mexico City Games in 1968 was waived, while athletes took part again in Munich in 1972 .
Liberia joined the call to boycott the 1976 Montreal Games . In Moscow in 1980 the delegation was withdrawn after the opening ceremony. 1984 in Los Angeles with the sprinter Grace Ann Dinkins for the first time a Liberian woman took part in Olympic competitions. In 1988 in Seoul boxers from Liberia took part for the first time. To the Games of Barcelona 1992 no Olympic team was dispatched.
Only athletes were sent to the following summer games from 1996 onwards. As in previous years, all of them remained unsuccessful.
