Ecuador , whose NOK , the Comité Olímpico Ecuadoriano , was founded in 1946, first sent athletes to the Summer Olympics in 1924. From 1968 on, Ecuador took part in every summer games. In 2018, Ecuador made its debut at the Winter Games. The country also took part in the youth summer games held so far.

Three athletes formed Ecuador's first Olympic team in 1924. Alberto Jurado in the 100-meter run and Alberto Jarrín in the 10,000-meter run were the country's first Olympic athletes on July 6, 1924.

After a 44-year hiatus, Ecuador did not take part in the Olympic Games again until 1968 in Mexico City. In addition to track and field athletes, boxers, cyclists, gymnasts, swimmers and wrestlers also took part. The swimmer Tamara Orejuela was the first woman from Ecuador to participate in the Olympic Games on October 18, 1968. In 1972 the swimmer Jorge Delgado reached 4th place over 200 meters dolphin.

In 1976, Ecuador was represented for the first time at the Olympic judo tournament and in diving. Jorge Delgado reached 7th place over 200 meters dolphin in Montreal. 1984 in Los Angeles for the first time Ecuadorian riders, weightlifters and shooters took part. The athlete Rolando Vera reached 15th place in the final over 10,000 meters in 1988. In 1992 in Barcelona, ​​an Ecuadorian table tennis player competed for the first time.

In 1996 there was the first medal win, which was also the first Olympic victory for an Ecuadorian. Jefferson Pérez won the 20 kilometer walking competition. In 2000 in Sydney and in 2004 in Athens, Pérez took fourth place over 20 kilometers of walking in 2008 in Beijing for the first time a Taekwondoin from Ecuador took part. Jefferson Pérez won the second medal of Ecuador in Olympic history with silver in the 20 km walking. It was the walker's fifth participation in the Olympics since 1992. The weightlifter Alexandra Escobar took 5th place in the lightweight, after 7th place in Athens.

In London 2012, Alex Quiñónez ran over 200 meters in 7th place. For the first time, an Ecuadorian triathlete and a canoeist took part. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro the country's rowers took part for the first time. Alexandra Escobar was fourth in the weightlifting featherweight division, Neisi Dajomes sixth in the middleweight division.

Winter games

Cross-country skier Klaus Jungbluth Rodríguez was the only athlete of the first Olympic team in Ecuador at the 2018 Winter Olympics. On February 16, 2018, he became the first Ecuadorian Winter Olympian.

Youth games

With 14 young people, Ecuador took part in the 2010 Summer Youth Games in Singapore . Oscar Villavicencio won the silver medal in walking over 10 kilometers. His teammate Ana Bustos came in 9th in walking over five kilometers. The boxer Ytalo Perea was fourth in the light heavyweight division. In weightlifting, Veronica Haro was fourth middleweight, Rene Pizango sixth featherweight.

In 2014 in Nanjing , 20 young people took part. The show jumper Marcarena Granja won the bronze medal with the mixed team from North America. This medal is credited to the medal balance of the mixed teams, it does not appear in the medal table of Ecuador.
