Trinidad and Tobago , whose NOK , the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee , was founded in 1946 andrecognizedby the IOC in 1948, has participated in all Summer Olympic Games since 1948. In 1960 athletes from the island state took part as part of the West Indian Federation team. Athletes were also sent to three winter games. Young athletes have taken part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.
Overview
Summer games
When Trinidad and Tobago made their Olympic debut in London in 1948, the Olympic team consisted of five athletes who competed in athletics, weightlifting and cycling. Track and field athletes George Lewis, Wilfred Tull and Manny Ramjohn were the first Olympic athletes in the Caribbean state on July 30, 1948. The first woman from Trinidad and Tobago to attend the Olympic Games was sprinter Laura Pierre on September 4, 1972 in Munich.
In the following years, athletes from Trinidad and Tobago participated in the sports of sailing (since 1964), shooting and swimming (since 1968), boxing (since 1984), badminton and table tennis (since 1996), Taekwondo (since 2000) as well as in gymnastics, judo and rowing (since 2016).
The first medal win could already be celebrated with the first participation in 1948. Weightlifter Rodney Wilkes won silver featherweight. In 1952 in Helsinki, both of the weightlifters who had traveled there, the only athletes on the Olympic team, each won bronze. Wilkes won his featherweight medal again, and Lennox Kilgour won his middle heavyweight division. 1956 in Melbourne get the athlete Mike Agostini two finals. He finished sixth over 100 meters and fourth over 200 meters. Rodney Wilkes fought his way to fourth in the featherweight lifting category, while Lennox Kilgour was seventh in the middle heavyweight division.
The athletes won three medals in Tokyo in 1964. Wendell Mottley won silver over 400 meters, Edwin Roberts bronze over 200 meters. Both were members of the 400 meter relay that won bronze. Roberts took 4th place over 200 meters in 1968. Benedict Cayenne finished eighth over 800 meters and the men's 400-meter relay was sixth. The cyclist Roger Gibbon finished fifth in the 1000 meter time trial.
In 1972 in Munich, the men's 400-meter relay reached 8th place. In 1976 in Montreal, the first Olympic victory was achieved. Hasely Crawford won the 100 meter gold medal. He finished eighth over 200 meters. The men's 400-meter relay took 6th place. In 1980 in Moscow, the Olympic team consisted only of track and field athletes. In the 400-meter run, Mike Solomon was sixth, Joseph Coombs eighth. The men's 400-meter relay came in sixth.
In 1984 in Los Angeles, the women's 100-meter relay reached seventh place. Cyclist Gene Samuel finished fourth in the 1000-meter time trial. Ian Morris finished 7th in the 400 meter run in Seoul in 1988. In 1992 in Barcelona he was fourth and seventh with the 400-meter relay. Ato Boldon won bronze in the 100 and 200 meters in Atlanta in 1996. In 2000 in Sydney he won silver over 100 meters and again bronze over 200 meters. With four medals he is the most successful participant so far, measured by the number of medals. The swimmer George Bovell won bronze in the 200 meter medley in Athens in 2004. In athletics, the men's 100-meter relay reached seventh place, the hammer thrower Candice Scott finished ninth, the shot putter Cleopatra Borel tenth. Athletes won two silver medals in Beijing in 2008. Richard Thompson was second over 100 meters, Marc Burns seventh. With the 100-meter relay, Thompson and Burns came in second. The winning relay from Jamaica was subsequently disqualified in January 2017 due to a doping offense committed by runner Nesta Carter . Trinidad and Tobago's relay was declared the new Olympic champion. Renny Quow reached 7th place over 400 meters .
2012 in London was the most successful participation so far for Trinidad and Tobago. A total of four medals could be won. Keshorn Walcott became Olympic champion in the javelin throw. Lalonde Gordon won bronze over 400 meters, plus bronze in the 400 meter relay. The men's 100 meter relay came third. In May 2015, the US relay that won the race was disqualified for a doping offense committed by runner Tyson Gay . Trinidad and Tobago moved up to second place and subsequently won silver. Richard Thompson came 6th over 100 meters, as did Jehue Gordon over 400 meters and Kelly-Ann Baptiste in the women over 100 meters. The cyclist Njisane Phillip finished fourth in the sprint and seventh in the keirin. Swimmer George Bovell finished 7th in the 50 meters freestyle. Keshorn Walcott won bronze in the javelin throw again in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Machel Cedenio was fourth over 400 meters. Michelle-Lee Ahye was sixth in the women over 100 and 200 meters. With the 100 meter relay she reached fifth place. Cleopatra Borel was fifth in the shot put.

Winter games
In 1994 in Lillehammer, winter sports enthusiasts in the country competed for the first time. Bobsleigh riders Curtis Harry and Gregory Sun were the first Trinidadian Winter Olympians on February 19, 1994.
Youth games
26 young athletes, four boys and 22 girls, competed in athletics, football and swimming in the first 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . The swimmer Christian Homer became a youth Olympic champion over 50 meters back. Cadell Lyons took 5th place over 50 meters dolphin. The track and field athlete Gabriela Cumberbatch was seventh over the 400 meter hurdles.
In 2014 in Nanjing , eleven athletes, four boys and two girls, competed in athletics, swimming, beach volleyball and sailing. With two medals, the swimmer Dylan Carter was the most successful. He won silver over 50 meters dolphin and bronze over 50 meters freestyle. In athletics, Akanni Hislop reached 4th place over 200 meters. Jeminise Parris finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.
