Greece is considered to be the birthplace of the ancient and modern Olympic Games, which were held from 1896 as the successor to the Olympics , which wererestricted to Greece only. Numerous Olympic rites have their origins in the country, including the Olympic hymn . Athletes were sent to all Olympic Games (in addition to Greece, Australia , France and the United Kingdom ). The National Olympic Committee is the Elliniki Olympiaki Epitropi .
