Nikolaos Siranidis
Nikolaos Siranidis ( Greek Νίκος Συρανίδης ; born February 26, 1976 in Athens ) is a Greek art and high diver . He was a participant in the 1996 , 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics .
At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , he failed to qualify and reached 26th place. As a participant in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney , he was 36th.
In 2004, the favored participants from China, Russia and the USA made serious mistakes during the synchronized jumping competition from the 3-meter board. That led to a bizarre turn of events in the final, fifth round. Nikolaos Siranidis was able to win the gold medal together with his partner Thomas Bimis .
It was Greece's first gold medal in high diving and the first medal for the hosts of the 2004 Summer Olympics. This made the pair of jumpers very well-known athletes in Greece.
