Thomas Bimis

Thomas Bimis ( Greek Θωμάς Μπίμης , born June 11, 1975 in Athens ) is a Greek high diver in synchronized jumping from the 3-meter board. He was a participant in the 2004 Summer Olympics . During the competition, the favored participants from China, Russia and the USA made serious mistakes. This led to a bizarre turn of events, with the USA already placed behind the Greek duo before the last round and thus could not have overtaken the Greeks even with a successful jump. In the fifth round, the Chinese and Russian couples received high point deductions. Thomas Bimis was able to win the gold medal together with his partner Nikolaos Siranidis .

It was Greece's first gold medal in high diving and the first medal for the hosts of the 2004 Summer Olympics. This made the pair of jumpers very well-known athletes in Greece. Bimis already took part in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney . There he took 32nd place.
