Myanmar , whose NOK , the Myanmar Olympic Committee , was founded in 1947 andrecognizedby the IOC in the same year, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1948. In 1976 they did not participate in the Montreal Games. Athletes from Myanmar have never participated in the winter games. Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.

Overview

Myanmar entered from 1948 to 1988 under the state name Burma (Eng. Burma ). The flag of Burma, which was modified in 1974, was used for this. The modified flag was also used under the new state name of Myanmar until 2010. The current flag has been in use ever since.

Summer games

The country's first Olympic team consisted of track and field athletes, boxers, and weightlifters. The first Olympian was the sprinter Maung Sein Pe on July 30, 1948. The first women at the Olympic Games were the marathon runner Mar Mar Min and the 3000 meter runner Khin Khin Htwe on September 23, 1988.

At the following Olympic Games, the country's athletes competed in the sports of sailing (from 1956), swimming (from 1960), shooting (from 1964), football (from 1972), judo (from 1992), archery (from 2000) as well as in canoeing and Rowing (from 2008).

A first success could be celebrated in 1972 in weightlifting when Gyi Aung Maung reached 5th place in the flyweight division. The football team qualified for the first time achieved a 2-0 victory over Sudan. Nevertheless, the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2000 in Sydney weightlifter Win Kay Thi was fourth in the flyweight division. Her teammate Win Swe Swe reached fifth place in the featherweight division, while Khin Moe Nwe was sixth in the lightweight division.

Youth games

At the first Youth Summer Games in Singapore in 2010 , four teenagers, two boys and two girls, competed in athletics, taekwondo and weightlifting. In 2014 in Nanjing , four teenagers, again two boys and two girls, took part in athletics, archery, sailing and weightlifting.
