Olympic history of Russia
The Olympic history of Russia began during the XXV. Olympics at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer ( Norway ), where Russia won eleven gold, eight silver and four bronze medals. Russian athletes had previously competed under the flag of the Soviet Union and, after it was triggered, initially as a united team . The National Olympic Committee is the Olimpijski komitet Rossii , which was founded in 1911 and was admitted to the International Olympic Committee in 1912 . On December 5, 2017, the IOC suspended the Russian NOK for " state doping ". Only unaffected Russian athletes are allowed to compete under a neutral flag as Olympic Athletes from Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics .
Russia competed in 16 Olympic Games held in 13 different countries - each held since 1994. 2429 Russian athletes (1414 men and 1015 women) competed in 458 competitions in 48 sports.
The youngest female athlete was Anna Kurnikowa (15 years old, 1996 Summer Olympics ). The most successful athlete was Alexei Nemov with twelve medals won in artistic gymnastics .

Russia hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , a city in the Krasnodar region ( southern Russia ) on the " Russian Riviera " on the Black Sea .

Russia won the most medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics with 90 and the 2014 Winter Olympics with 33. At the Summer Olympics in 1996 and 2000 , Russia achieved second place and at the Winter Olympics in 1994 and 2014, first place among the participating nations.
Overall, in terms of the number of medals, Russia ranks tenth (including predecessor states second) at the Summer Olympics and ninth (including predecessor states second) at the Winter Olympics.
Others
37 medals won by Russian athletes were revoked because of doping .
