Rwanda , whose NOK , the Comité National Olympique et Sportif du Rwanda , was founded in 1984 andrecognizedby the IOC in the same year, has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1984. So far, no athletes have been sent to the Winter Games. Medals have not yet been won.

Overview

Rwandan athletes first took part in the 1984 Los Angeles Games. The 1984 Olympic team consisted of three athletes, two men and one woman. The first Olympian was the 800-meter runner Jean-Marie Rudasingwa on August 3, 1984, and the first female Olympian a week later was the 3000-meter runner Marcianne Mukamurenzi. Also in 1988 in Seoul , the Rwandan team consisted only of track and field athletes.

In 1992 in Barcelona , Rwandan cyclists made their Olympic debut. 1996 in Atlanta saw the first success for Rwanda. Mathias Ntawulikura reached the finals in the 10,000 meter run and finished eighth. Rwandan swimmers competed for the first time in Sydney 2000 , and judoka in London in 2012 .
