Guinea , whose NOK , the Comité National Olympique et Sportif Guinéen , was founded in 1954 andrecognizedby the IOC in1965, has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1968. In 1972 they did not participate, in 1976 they joined the boycott of African countries. No athletes from Guinea have participated in the winter games. So far no Olympic medal has been won.
Overview
Guinean’s first Olympians were the team members of the Guinean football team that played the Olympic football tournament at the 1968 Mexico City Games . After two defeats against France (1: 3) and Mexico (0: 4) and a victory over Colombia (3: 2), the team was eliminated after the preliminary round.
Participation in the 1972 Munich Games was waived. Also in Montreal 1976 Guinea was not there, because the country followed the boycott call of African countries. Athletes, boxers and judoka took part in Moscow in 1980 , with boxer Samba Jacob Diallo being the first individual athlete in Guinea on July 20, 1980.
In Los Angeles 1984 only one judoka took part, in 1988 in Seoul Guinean freestyle wrestlers competed for the first time. In Barcelona 1992 , the sprinter Aminata Konaté was the first woman from Guinea to take part in an Olympic competition.
The following Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000 were unsuccessful for the country. Swimmers competed for the first time in Sydney. The unsuccessfulness continued in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008 . In Beijing a Taekwondoin from Guinea accepted for the first time. Also in London in 2012 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 , the Guinean participants had no chance.
