Olympic history of Malawi

Malawi , whose NOK , the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association of Malawi , was founded in 1968 andrecognizedby the IOC in the same year, has been participating in the Summer Olympic Games since 1972. In 1976 they joined the African boycott of the Montreal Games. In 1980 the call to boycott the Moscow Games was followed. So far, no athletes from Malawi have participated in the Winter Games. So far no medal could be won.
Overview
Athletes from Malawi had the opportunity to participate in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome as part of the team of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and called Rhodesia (RHO) .
The first participation of the independent state of Malawi took place in Munich in 1972 . The first Malawian Olympians were 100-meter sprinter Mustaff Matola and 1500-meter runner Harry Nkopeka on August 31, 1972. On the same day, Emesia Chizunga, Malawi's first woman at the Olympic Games, started the 800-meter run. The team also included boxers and racing cyclists.
Malawie followed the call for a boycott by African countries and stayed away from the 1976 Montreal Games . The country also participated in the US-led boycott of the 1980 Moscow Games .
Malawian athletes returned to the Olympic stage for the 1984 Los Angeles Games . However, they remained unsuccessful in the episode and failed in their sports in the first round. Malawian swimmers competed for the first time in Sydney in 2000 , and an archer in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 .
