Mauritania , whose NOK , the Comité National Olympique et Sportif Mauritanien , was founded in 1962 andrecognizedby the IOC in1979, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1984. So far, no Mauritanian athletes have participated in the winter games. Medals have not yet been won.

Overview

Two wrestlers formed the Olympic team of Mauritania when it first participated in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles . The first Olympian in his country was Mamadou Diallo, who competed in the light heavyweight division on August 7, 1984. In 1988 in Seoul , Mauritanian athletes took part for the first time. With the 100-meter runner Fatou Dieng, a woman from Mauritania competed for the first time at the Sydney Games on September 23, 2000 .

In the nine participations in the Summer Olympics so far, none of the country's participants has managed to survive the first round of their competition.
