Mauritania took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Australian metropolis of Sydney with two athletes, a woman and a man, in one sport.

It was Mauritania's fifth participation in the Summer Olympics since 1984 .

Flag bearer

The 1500-meter runner Sidi Mohamed Ould Bidjel carried the flag of Mauritania during the opening ceremony at Stadium Australia .
