Algeria took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Australian metropolis of Sydney with a delegation of 47 athletes, 37 men and 10 women, in ten sports.

It was Algeria's ninth participation in the Summer Olympics since 1964 .

Flag bearer

Middle-distance runner Djabir Saïd-Guerni wore the flag of Algeria during the opening ceremony at Stadium Australia .

Medalist

With a recovered gold, a silver and three bronze medals, the Algerian team was ranked 42 in the medal count .
