Mohamed Allalou

Mohamed Allalou (born September 28, 1973 ) is a former Algerian boxer . Allalou was a gold medalist at the 2001 and 2003 African Championships, a silver medalist at the 1999 African Games, and a bronze medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games . He was also a participant in the 1996 Olympic Games .

Career

1996 Allalou took part in the light welterweight (-63.5 kg) in the African Olympic qualification tournament and was able to win this. At the 1996 Olympic Games , he won his first two fights against Peter Bulinga, Kenya (17: 3), and the 1993 European champion Jecek Bielski, Poland (19: 8), before narrowly beating eventual bronze medalist Fathi Missaoui , in the quarterfinals . Tunisia (16:15), lost.

At the Mediterranean Games 1997 Allalou won the gold medal in the lightweight (-60 kg), but retired at the World Championships in the same year in the first fight against Koba Gogoladze, Georgia (13: 6). In 1998 he started again in the light welterweight division and won his first African championships in Algiers .

In 1999 Allalou reached the final of the African Games , which he lost against Olusegum Ajose, Nigeria , but qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games . In the games he reached the semi-finals after victories over the third place in the 1999 World Cup, Lukáš Konečný , Czech Republic (17: 9), Ben Neequays, Ghana (15: 6), and Sven Paris, Italy (22: 8). In this he faced the reigning world champion Muhammadqodir Abdullayev , Uzbekistan , and had to admit defeat in the second round. Allalou won the Olympic bronze medal.

After this greatest success of his career, Allalou also won the African Championships in Port Louis in 2001 , but failed again in the first fight against Michael Kelly, Ireland (17: 7) at the World Championships in the same year . In 2003 he defended his African championship title and ended his career after one last and again unsuccessful start at the World Championships .
