Papua New Guinea took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Australian metropolis of Sydney with five athletes, three women and two men, in three sports.

Since 1976 , it was Papua New Guinea's sixth participation in the Summer Olympics .

Flag bearer

The swimmer Xenia Peni carried the flag of Papua New Guinea during the opening ceremony at Stadium Australia .
