Arsen Berberian (* as Petros Garnik on October 25, 1937 in Alexandria , Egypt ; † November 16, 2013 ) was an Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church .

He was born in Alexandria, Egypt and attended the Armenian College in Alexandria. In 1947 his family emigrated to Gyumri in Armenia . In 1955 he entered the Gevorkian seminary in Etchmiadzin . After graduating in 1960, he completed postgraduate studies at the Spiritual Seminary of Moscow in Zagorsk until 1962 . In 1962 he was ordained a priest and took the name Arsenic . After receiving his doctorate in 1963, he was appointed Archimandrite (Vardapet). In 1967 he attended further training at the World Council of Churches Institute in Geneva . He completed a PhD at Kings College (London) from 1968 to 1973 with the dissertation The relations of Armenian people with Anglican Church in 1850-1905 . At the same time he studied at the Musical Academy of Kings College and worked as a priest in London. After his return to Armenia, he was appointed Senior Archimandrite (Dzayraguyn Vardapet) in 1972.

In 1972 he was appointed bishop by Wasgen I , the "Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of all Armenians". He was entrusted with the management of the foreign department and was Chancellor at the seat of the Patriarch (1973-1982). Until 1985 he was vicar of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese in Yerevan .

In Sweden he was a bishop for the Armenian Church from 1985 to 1988. In addition, he performed various international mandates, from 1988 various tasks in Armenia. From 1998 to 1999 he was director of the press office, from 2000 to 2005 director of TV Yerevan.
