Summer games

Panama decided not to take part in the 1932, 1936 and 1956 Games. The country followed the US call for a boycott and stayed away from Moscow in 1980.
In addition to swimming (since 1928) and athletics (since 1948), Panamanian athletes took part in the following sports weightlifting (since 1952), wrestling (since 1960), boxing and judo (since 1964), basketball (since 1968), fencing ( since 1984), shooting and canoeing (since 1996), taekwondo (since 2012) and gymnastics (since 2016).
The athlete Lloyd LaBeach won bronze medals over 100 and 200 meters in London in 1948, making it Panama's first medalist. 28 years later, in 1976 in Montreal, another Panamanian athlete was able to qualify for a final. Guy Abrahams finished fifth over 100 meters. It should then take another 28 years until the next finals. In 2004 in Athens Bayano Kamani finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. Irving Saladino was then able to win the third Panama medal after 60 years in Beijing in 2008. At the same time, it was the country's first Olympic victory when Saladino won the long jump. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Alonso Edward finished seventh over 100 meters.
