Iztok Čop and Denis Žvegelj as well as Milan Janša , Janez Klemenčič , Sašo Mirjanič and Sadik Mujkič were the first Slovenian medalists: All of them won bronze medals in rowing: the first two in two without a helmsman and the other four in a foursome without a helmsman - this meant for Slovenia 52nd place.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics , the first Winter Olympic sports medals were won: in the men it was Jure Košir with the bronze medal in the slalom and the women were Alenka Dovžan the bronze medal in the combination and Katja Koren with the bronze medal in the slalom - 20th place for Slovenia

At the 1996 Summer Olympics , performance continued to rise: Andraž Vehovar (canoe, single kayak, slalom) and Brigita Bukovec (athletics, women, 100 meter hurdles) were the first Slovenian winners of a silver medal. That meant place 55.

2000 Summer Olympics : Slovenia's athletes achieved an Olympic victory for the first time. Iztok Čop and Luka Špik in rowing (men, double sculls) and Rajmond Debevec in shooting (men, small bore, three-position fight). Slovenia improved by 19 places to 36th place.

After participating without medals , Slovenia was able to win the bronze medal in the ski jumping team competition with Damjan Fras , Robert Kranjec , Primož Peterka and Peter Žonta at the 2002 Winter Olympics , which meant 23rd place.

2004 Summer Olympics : The number of medals fell again (one silver, three bronze), so Slovenia only achieved 63rd place - to date (as of 2018) the worst Slovenian placement. With 79 athletes, this was the largest Slovenian delegation to the Olympic Games.

Slovenia also won a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics , which again meant 23rd place.

Since 2008 Slovenia has achieved exactly one gold medal at every Summer Games, in 2008 there were two silver and two bronze medals; One silver and two bronze medals in 2012 and two silver and one bronze medal in 2016.

In 2014 it was Tina Maze who won a gold medal for Slovenia at the Winter Games for the first time (downhill and giant slalom). Slovenia provided 71 athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics - the largest Slovenian delegation to the Winter Games.
