biography

Košir's first international success was the Super-G victory at the Junior World Championship in 1991 in Hemsedal . Later he specialized in giant slalom and especially slalom . In December 1993, he was the first driver from Slovenia , which had become independent, to win a World Cup race , the slalom of the 3-Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio . At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he won the bronze medal in slalom races behind Thomas Stangassinger and Alberto Tomba . In the slalom discipline classification of the 1993/94 season he reached third place.

The 1994/95 season was also successful. Although he could not win a race because of Alberto Tomba's superiority, he reached second place in the final accounts of the Giant Slalom World Cup, third place in the Slalom World Cup and third place in the overall World Cup. The following years were less successful, but he had a second career highlight in the 1998/99 season . He won two slalom races, one of them in Kranjska Gora , the neighboring village of his birthplace Mojstrana. In the Slalom World Cup, he reached second place. After that, he could no longer build on his previous achievements. He resigned at the end of the 2005-06 season.

In addition to his three victories, Košir achieved a total of 20 placements among the top three in world cup races, 18 of them in slalom. From 1992 to 2005 he won 13 Slovenian championship titles : six in slalom, four in giant slalom and three in super-G. In 1994 he was voted Slovenia's Sportsman of the Year .

In addition to his sporting achievements, Jure Košir is also known as a rapper in Slovenia . In the mid-1990s, at the height of his popularity, he recorded a few songs. One of them, Včasih smučam hit, včasih pa počas ( Sometimes I ski fast, sometimes slowly ) even hit the charts in his homeland.
