The Republic of Moldova , whose NOK , the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova , was founded in 1991 and recognized by the IOC in 1993 , has participated in the Summer Olympic Games since 1996 and in the Winter Olympic Games since 1994.

Before Moldova gained independence, the country's athletes took part in the Olympic Games in the teams of Russia , Romania , the Soviet Union, and later the CIS .

General overview

Summer games

Moldova's first Olympic team consisted of 40 athletes in 1996 who competed in the sports of archery, track and field, boxing, cycling, swimming, wrestling and weightlifting.

In total, two silver and three bronze medals have been won over the years.

Winter games

In 1994, Moldova took part in the winter games for the first time. Since then, Moldovan athletes have only participated in alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing and luge.
