Malaya took part in the Summer Olympics in 1956 and 1960 as an independent team. In 1963 the state of Malaysia was founded. Athletes who started for Malaya from now on, as well as athletes from North Borneo ,competedfor Malaysia.
A total of 40 athletes, including one woman, competed. Medals were not won.
The youngest team member in 1960 was the athlete Manikavasagam Jegathesan , who started at the age of 16. The marksman Chan Kooi Chye was the oldest starter in 1960 at the age of 39.
