André Schiffrin

André Schiffrin (born June 14, 1935 in Paris ; † December 1, 2013 ibid) was a Franco-American editor, publisher and author.

Life

Schiffrin came from a Jewish family . The family was able to flee to the USA in 1941 . From 1961 to 1991 he worked for the Pantheon Books publishing house in New York City , which his father co-founded . After selling the publishing house to Random House , he founded the non-profit publishing house The New Press in 1991 .

Schiffrin died of pancreatic cancer on December 1, 2013.
