Olympic history of Madagascar

Madagascar , whose NOK , the Comité Olympique Malgache , was founded in 1963 andrecognizedby the IOC in 1964, has been taking part in the Summer Olympics since 1964. In 1976 they joined the African boycott of the Montreal Games. In 1988 they did not participate. In 2006, for the first time and so far only athletes in the country took part in the winter games. So far no medal could be won.
Overview
Madagascar's first participation was at the Tokyo Games in 1964 . The country's first Olympian was sprinter Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa, who took part in the 100-meter run on October 14, 1964. 1968 in Mexico City Ravelomanantsoa reached the final of this competition, in which he was eighth. A Malagasy cyclist took part for the first time in Mexico City. In 1972 in Munich , judoka from the country competed for the first time.
Madagascar followed the call to boycott the African countries and stayed away from the Montreal games . Boxers and swimmers competed for the first time in Moscow in 1980 . In addition, on July 20, 1980, the swimmer Bako Ratsifa became the first woman from Madagascar to take part in the Olympic Games.
At the following Summer Olympic Games, Malagasy participants remained unsuccessful, although they did not participate in Seoul in 1988 . In 1992 in Barcelona tennis players and a weightlifter took part for the first time. With Mathieu Razanakolona , a Malagasy winter athlete competed in alpine skiing for the first time in Turin in 2006 . In 2012 in London a wrestler from Madagascar was represented for the first time.
