The Yemen , the NOK , the al-Ladschna al-ulimbiyya al-yamaniyya , founded in 1971 and 1981 by the IOC was recognized, taking the after the unification of South Yemen with North Yemen in part since 1992 in the Olympic Summer Games. Previously, Yemeni athletes could participate as part of the North Yemen (1984 and 1988) and South Yemen (1988) teams.
So far, no athletes have been sent to the Winter Games. Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far. Athletes from Yemen have not yet won any medals.
Overview
Summer games
Yemen's first Olympic team in 1992 consisted of athletes and judokas. In the following summer games, Yemeni athletes participated in wrestling (since 1996), taekwondo and swimming (since 2004) and gymnastics (since 2008).
The first Yemeni athlete to compete in the Olympic Games was judoka Yahia Mufarrih on July 29, 1992. The first Yemeni woman to appear at the Olympic Games was sprinter Hana Ali Saleh on September 27, 2000.
Youth games
Five young athletes, four boys and one girl, competed in swimming, judo and athletics at the first edition of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore .
In 2014 in Nanjing , three athletes, two boys and one girl, took part. They competed in athletics, wrestling and taekwondo.
