The Netherlands , whose NOK , the NOC * NSF emerged in 1993 from the merger of the Dutch Olympic Committee and the Dutch Sports Federation , has been taking part in the Summer Olympics since 1900. Since 1928, athletes have also been sent to the winter games. In 1956, the Netherlands boycotted because of the invasion of the Soviet Union in Hungary to take part in the Games in Melbourne , but participated in the Equestrian Games in Stockholm in part.

With Amsterdam in 1928, the Netherlands already hosted the Summer Olympics once.

A total of 2791 athletes, including 772 women, competed. (Status: 2014) Athletes from the Netherlands have won 395 medals so far. The cyclist Maurice Peeters celebrated his first Olympic victory at the Olympic Summer Games in 1920 .

The youngest member of a team from the Netherlands was the gymnast Monique Bolleboom in 1976 , who started at the age of 13. The rider Alexis Pantchoulidzew was the oldest participant in Dutch Olympic history at the age of 67 in 1956.
