Mark Huizinga
Mark Huizinga (born September 10, 1973 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch judoka .
At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he was Olympic champion in the weight class up to 90 kg. Four years earlier at the 1996 Games in Atlanta , he won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 86 kg. At the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , Huizinga was the flag bearer of the Dutch Olympic team, and at the Olympic judo tournament he again won a bronze medal. At his fourth Olympic participation in Beijing in 2008 , he finished 15th. In 2005 he won his only world championship medal with bronze. Huizinga won a total of twelve medals at European championships, five of which were gold medals (1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2008). Huizinga won eight military world championships, twelve times he was Dutch national champion. In 1998 and 2000 Huizinga was voted European Judoka of the Year .
After studying applied computer science at the School of Economics (HES) in Amsterdam , Huizinga joined the Dutch Royal Army . There he has the rank of lieutenant .
