The Netherlands participated in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with a delegation of 125 athletes (105 men and 20 women) in 57 competitions in twelve sports. With two gold, four silver and four bronze medals, the nation took 15th place in the medal table. There was gold in the team time trial in cycling as well as for judoka Anton Geesink , who was also the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. The swimmers were also successful, Ada Kok and Erica Terpstra each won two medals. Medal successes were also achieved in canoeing and rowing. Chef de mission was Simon de Wit , a former rowing Olympian.
